Photodegradation of Unmodified and Thermally Modified Wood Due to Indoor Lighting

چکیده

Considering interior applications, sunlight, both direct through open window and glass, artificial lighting are the main sources of radiation possessing sufficient energy to trigger photodegradation processes in wood. LED lamps, which emit mostly visible light, becoming dominant light source various interiors. In present study, thermally modified (TM) unmodified (UM) ash (Fraxinus excelsior), aspen (Populus tremula), pine (Pinus sylvestris) due exposure UV lamps was evaluated compared by analysing wood discolouration (CIELAB colour space), changes reflectance FTIR spectra, formation water-soluble components. The results show that, apart from radiation, may cause considerable TM UM resulting visually perceptible change, alteration chemical structure Improved photo-stability observed for exposed while even more spectra were detected than experiment with lamps. Comparing wood, quite similar all species significant differences case

Colour Stability of Thermally Modified Wood during Short-Term Photodegradation

Dry thermal treatments of wood samples were carried out at 160 and 200 °C. After each treatment, the samples were irradiated using a strong UV emitter mercury lamp, and the colour change was then evaluated. For control, untreated samples were also irradiated using the same mercury lamp. Results showed that the extractive content of the wood played an important role in the colour change not only...

Influence of Post-extraction on Photostability of Thermally Modified Scots Pine Wood during Artificial Weathering

The photo-stabilizing effect of post-extraction was evaluated for thermally modified wood. Extracted and non-extracted thermally modified Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) samples were exposed in a xenon weather-ometer for 1008 h, and the surface color and chemical changes were characterized using a chroma meter, attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), an...

Modified versus Unmodified Ect

MODIFIED VERSUS UNMODIFIED ECT 4 Sir, Apropos the paper of Andrade et al. (April, 2000), I am surprized that the authors have tried to justify the use of unmodified ECT by showing that musculoskeletal complications are not common or serious Tharyan et al. (1993) too have done the same. The problem is not as to whether orthopaedic complications are more or less frequent with this type of treatme...

Comparative Study of Wood Flour Photodegradation of Two Wood Species Submitted to Artificial Weathering

In this work Eucalyptus grandis and Dipteryx odorata were submitted to photodegradation by ultraviolet radiation. The effect of ultraviolet radiation irradiation on the color change and chemical composition of each wood flour were evaluated. The samples were submitted to a total of 500h of artificial weathering using condensation stages and ultraviolet radiation B irradiation cycles. The change...

Characterization of Emissions from Thermally Modified Wood and Their Reduction by Chemical Treatment

Thermal treatment is a suitable method for improving the quality of wood types like spruce, beech, or poplar, and thus to open up new fields of application that used to be limited to tropical woods or woods treated with timber preservatives. These thermally treated woods are characterized by a typical odor caused by degradation products of miscellaneous wood components. The characterization and...
